Bronze Sculpture

Ikh bin a kleyner dreydl, gemakht bin ikh fun blay

Ikh bin a kleyner dreydl, gemakht bin ikh fun blay is the first line of a Yiddish children's song and the title of this bronze sculpture. Like throwing dice, the dreidel game is a game of chance. It is not about accomplishment or skill.

The sculpture commemorates the former Jewish Children's Home at Hans-Thoma-Strasse 24 in Frankfurt am Main, and is dedicated to the memory of all the children that lived in this home and those who looked after them, who were persecuted by the Nazis and became victims of the Shoah.

Grown-ups, who bend down to explore the sculpture from all sides, or children who have a different point of view because of their height, will see that names are traced into the “ceiling” of the sculpture. These are the first names of the children who once lived in the Jewish Children's Home.
